Our current book is Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl. |
Inspired by building thinking classrooms, Thinking Spaces will provide opportunities for secondary math teachers to think together to accomplish a goal that they set for themselves in one or more of the 4 areas: Building thinking classrooms, Universal Design for Learning, Irvine Math Project Resources, or Lesson Studies. Teachers will work to solve a problem of practice in one or more of the areas listed above. Come join us to set goals, think with our colleagues and plan for a lesson with a focus on one or more of these four categories.
This professional development was designed to support a math team and the admin to explore what makes a lesson procedural, conceptual or problem solving and allowed participants to reflect on the balance within their teams.
Talk to your TOSAs about scheduling a lesson study for your team. We take a look at the 10 math teacher practices to choose a focus for our lesson study, develop a research question, design some data collection templates, design a lesson, observe our colleagues in action, then reflect on our teaching practices based on the data.
